COME ENGAGE leaders in sustainability and infrastructure on engineering issues affecting Central Texas and communities around the country. This lively panel discussion will be followed by an on-site reception to which all Infrastructure Summit and GeoU 2023 Short Course Attendees are invited.

PANELISTS

Mike Arellano, P.E.

Mike Arellano, P.E. is the Austin District Deputy District Engineer at Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Mike received the 2023 America’s Transportation Award for Quality of Life/Community Development Issued by the Western Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (WASHTO). The award recognizes transportation projects that have significantly benefited the community in which they exist, especially in the form of economic growth and well-being of citizens, and focuses on how the project made the community stronger and better.

Prof. Jay Banner

Prof. Jay Banner is the F. M. Bullard Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences in the Jackson School of Geosciences, and Director of the Environmental Science Institute. His research interests center on climate and hydrologic processes, how they are preserved in the geologic record, and how human activity affects the sustainability of water resources.

Prof. Jorge Zornberg, P.E., F.ASCE

Dr. Zornberg, P.E., F. ASCE, is the Brunswick-Abernathy Regents Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He has over 35 years’ experience in research and practice in geotechnical, geosynthetics, transportation, and geoenvironmental engineering.

David Shercliff

David Shercliff is a UK-based, Chartered Civil and Waste Engineer with a diverse engineering background in highway construction, water treatment installations, waste management, and coastal design. Currently, he is Chief Engineer for a drainage geocomposite manufacturer (ABG) and a leading sustainability speaker for the not-for-profit International Geosynthetics Society (IGS).

Sam Allen

Sam Allen

Sam Allen is the Vice President of Austin-based Texas Research International‘s (TRI) Geosynthetics Services Division. He has served as Chairman of ASTM Committee D35 on Geosynthetics and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI). He is the elected president of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS).
